Congratulations to our gymnasts who won the following medals at The Yorkshire Schools Acrobatics  Championships in March 2010:

Poetry Whiz
 
Polly Carter, a Year 7 pupil has been successful in a competition run by Young Writers Magazine. Eleven-year-old Polly will have her poem, Whiz, Pop, Bang published in a new book: A Medley of Verse: A Collection of Poetry From Young Writers which is published on 31st July 2009. Well done Polly!
 
Marathon Star
 
Liam Stedman, one of The Grammar School's Sports Scholarship holders, made the School proud on Sunday 26th April when he ran the Mini London Marathon, an event for young athletes. 

Liam, from Birkenshaw, ran the three-mile course in just 17 minutes, finishing ninth in his age group (11-12 year olds), a fantastic achievement! Liam is a talented athelete and represents the school, as well as Calderdale & Spenborough Athletics Club, in many cross country events. 
 
Snowboarding European Champion
 
Congratulations to our Sports Scholarship holder, Katie Ormerod who proved she could be a future Olympic champion snowboarder after a series of important successes. 

Katie was named overall champion of the Burton AM 2008/2009 Snowboarding Tour, as well as achieving three first places at this year's BRITS competition, in Laax, Switzerland.

Katie also finished first in the youth section in the Big Air competition at the BRITS, which is regarded as the highlight of the British snow season. This sees riders taking to the skies on large ramps, rails and half-pipe.
