Modern Languages

Students even get the chance to practice in the field with our annual trips to France abroad.
Languages increasingly hold an important position in people's careers, and skills acquired at school often pay dividends in later life, substantially enhancing onees career prospects.
Before making your choice of languages do not hesitate to ask your teachers about your prospects for French or German GCSE.
French
The AQA French GCSE Specification A is studied. The four skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing are all assessed, and equally taught. The first three skills are evaluated by examination, while writing is assessed by coursework completed in the two years and done entirely in class. There will be two pieces of coursework that students must complete.
Depending on ability and progress, pupils can be entered for Higher Level (Grades A*-D) or Foundation Level (Grades C-G), in each skill area. Relevant topics of school, home, leisure, work and foreign travel provide the keystone for the GCSE course.
Visits & Exchanges
Time spent in a French-speaking country is of great value at GCSE and beyond. We are in the process of setting up a partnership with a French high school. In the meantime, students are encouraged to take part in a French exchange scheme which is run by the local education authority.
