On Thursday 7th May pupils displayed their musical talents to a delighted audience at the school's annual Spring Concert. There were many emotive performances throughout the evening with the school choir ending the evening with two performances which gained rapturous applause from the audience.
The Dance Band
A variety of musical instruments and musical genres were performed. The Dance Band were first to entertain the audience with a variety of movie favourites which included the them from Mission Impossible and Soul Bossa Nova which has featured in Austin Powers. 
Rebecca Firth - Loch Lomond
Rebecca Firth, a Year 9 pupil, showed her vocal talents with her stunning performance of a traditional Scottish song, Loch Lomond. Another soloist, Year 11 student Rebecca Sabin sang a beautiful Alma del Core and not only portrayed the emotion of the song but commanded the Italian language beautifully.

The String Ensemble
Other highlights from the first half included The String Ensemble, a quartet made up of Charlotte Bryson, Victoria Bryson, James Hopkins and Amelia Caroll. They played favourite The Entertainer and Morpeth Rant. The School’s Guitar Ensemble played Beatles favourite Yellow Submarine expertly and were followed by Oliver Firth’s beautiful performance of Mozart’s Die Zufriedenheit, and like Rebecca Sabin, commanded the German language.

The Girls' Choir
The Girls’ Choir ended the first half with emotive performances of Leonard Bernstein’s One Hand, One Heart and South Pacific favourite Some Enchanted Evening, a performance which moved the Headmaster as it took him back to his childhood.
Guests enjoyed drinks and nibbles in the School Dining Hall whilst eagerly awaiting the second half. 
Gabriel’s Oboe and Nimrod were pieces to open the second half with an emotive bang by the Brass Ensemble. Fresh from his success at Youth Band Championships (crowned best solo , lead performer Philip Varley lead the brass players to create a professional and poignant sound.

Nikki Campbell - Somewhere
Somewhere, another song by Leonard Bernstein was performed beautifully by Nikki Campbell before the 21 strong Boys’ Choir wowed the audience with their rendition of Elton John’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight? from Disney’s Lion King. The boys sang beautiful harmonies of the family favourite.

Katie- Faye Moorhouse
Next to perform was Katie-Faye Moorhouse. She performed Dearest of All, a song written by Vernon Lathom-Sharp who is coincidentally an ancestor of three of our students, Patrick, Catherine and James Lathom-Sharp. Their grandfather was in the audience to see his grandfather’s composition performed beautifully. 
The Saxophone Group
The audience enjoyed the fun performance from the Saxophone Group who expertly played television themes from Wallace and Gromit and The Pink Panther.
Cassie Walker, a Year 11 GCSE Music student was the talented composer of our penultimate performance. Her Waltz, composed for her Music GCSE was skilfully played by flautist and Year 10’s Young Musician of the Year, Harriet Crossland who was accompanied by Mrs. Zarneh, the school piano teacher. 
The School Choir
The School Choir, a partnership of the Girls’ and Boys’ choir concluded the evening with their beautiful, unaccompanied performances of And Can It Be by Charles Wesley and Linden Lea. The harmonies and tone of the talented vocalists stunned the audience and the choir was given rapturous applause.
