Cheer Squad cheer to victory again in National Cheerleading Championships»
17/05/2010

The Grammar School Hipperholme’s Street Cheerleading Squad, were cheering yesterday as they wowed judges of the National Cheerleading Championships and were awarded 2nd place nationally in the Pom Dance category.

The National Championships, organised by the UK Cheerleading Association took place at Manchester Velodrome.  What is most impressive is that the other competitors were from Cheerleading clubs, not School teams and therefore will receive many more hours training and guidance than the School's Cheerleading team.

The winning routine, using colourful pom poms, was debuted at Leavers’ Assembly on Thursday which was emotional for the girls, as some of the team leave school this year.

The team is made up of girls from Years 9, 10 and Year 11.  They are: India Shibil, Harriet Knibbs, Olivia O’Neil, Rebecca Sabin, Megan Wright, Rovinya Sollitt, Cassie Walker, Gabrielle Capone, Georgia Wilson, Jessica Brearley, Megan Brearley and Laura Wadsworth.

The winning team along with 3 other School teams will travel to Manchester again on 25th and 26th June to take part in will be competing in the National Schools Cheerleading Championships where we anticipate more success.

India Shibil and Rebecca Sabin, the team captains will study for their A Levels at The Grammar School and we look forward to more successes as the girls take part in the advanced competitions next year.
