Sports Day»

Pupils and staff enjoyed a summer's day out on Friday 25th June as they took part in the Annual Interhouse Athletics Afternoon at Spring Hall Athletics tracks.  Here are the reports from each head of house.

Lister Report

Normality was restored, Lister won! So the children can sleep at night knowing that everything is good in the world.
But Mr. Griffiths, Head of Broadley House was treated by the paramedics for fainting because his house did win something after 10 barren years! What a day it was - thirteen new records. Take the Year 10 boys Triple Jump for example, the record was broken by Grimshaw of Sunderland on 1st jump then by Williams of Lister then again by Grimshaw then back to Williams on the last jump, that was the nature of the competition.
The standard was amazing, it was nip and tuck all the way, every point really counted, so special thanks to athletes like Lizzie Bell who gave every thing for their house to get those valuable extra points. Well done to everyone even if you weren’t in Lister!
Mr. Rose , Head of Lister

Sunderland Report

Another successful sports day for Sunderland saw some exceptional performances at all levels. Jack Whittaker won the 100m, 400m and Triple Jump events, whilst Ben Sweeney and Arandeep Gill won the Javelin and Junior Girls, Georgina Harris won the Long Jump and Emily Jacobs won the Triple Jump whilst Natalie Angus set new school records in both 100m and 200m sprints to wrap up an excellent afternoon on both field and track for
Sunderland’s youngest athletes.
Katie Moorhouse won both the 300m and the High Jump whilst Abigail Robertshaw won the Shot Putt for the Intermediate Girls. At the same time Luke Enness, Josh Mitchell, Nick Bodrozic and James Grimshaw hit Intermediate Sunderland Gold for the 200m sprint, Relay, Long Jump and High Jump in which Luke set a new school record. Special mention should be made of James Grimshaw who twice broke the school Triple Jump
record but was still narrowly beaten on the day.
Mr. Rushton, Head of Sunderland

Broadley Report

Broadley had an impressive Sports Day with its Junior atheletes coming first with 275 points. Liam Stedman, fresh from success in his international competition, won the 800m Intermediate Boys race completing the course in just 2.20 minutes. Lucy Wilson won the High Jump for the Junior Girls reaching a height of 1.26m whilst the Junior Boys Long Jump was won by Broadley athelete Oliver Spear. Intermediate Girl, Gabrielle Capone made Broadley proud by completing the 100m race in 13.90 seconds and the 800m Intermediate Girls' race was won by Sarah Porter. Cameron Wroot threw a Javelin 30m and George Forsyth threw his shot putt over 10m. No records broken but wonderful sportsmanship and some good results.
Mr. Griffiths, Head of Broadley

A sincere thank you to all those who competed so well for their house and made the afternoon such a resounding
success.
