Nursery

Welcome to Hipperholme Grammar School Nursery

In both early years classes (Nursery and Reception) we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Learning and Development Requirements.  Based in each class there is a qualified teacher and a qualified Level 3 Early Years practitioner.  We also have an extra qualified Level 3 practitioner who works across both Early Years classes.

Both classes have a specialist PE coach who works on their Physical Development.  This is done through exploring the school’s on site woodland, gymnastics, dance and games skills.

Our Nursery class offers excellent education and care in our bright, stimulating and ever evolving setting. The children are happy and engaged, they love to come to school, they learn and grow in confidence in this warm and caring environment.
The children access learning through play and have access to excellent provision both indoor and outdoors. We ensure supportive, individual attention by having a small nursery class. Research has proved that young children are more receptive earlier in the day and with this in mind, mornings in the Nursery focus on structured activities to promote literacy, numeracy and creative thinking with afternoons dedicated to activities where children enjoy child-initiated learning.

Children can join our school as early as three years old. If parents feel their child is ready earlier for the school nursery environment then we will also accept children the term of their third birthday.
Our Nursery operates Monday to Friday during term time only.  Nursery sessions are from 8.30-11.30am and 12.30-3.30pm with a lunch session from 11.30am-12.30pm.  There is complete flexibility and parents have the choice as to whether their child attends a morning, an afternoon session or for the full day.  Lunch is optional for morning or afternoon sessions.  However, most children who attend in the morning do stay for lunch. During both the morning and afternoon session a healthy snack is provided along with milk or water.

Nursery children are all able to access the Government Early Education Funding scheme entitling all children to 15 hours of free education.  This is provided as 5 blocks of 3 hours, either 8.30-11.30am and/or 12.30-3.30pm. We also offer Breakfast club from 7:30am and an After School club until 6:00pm as an extra.

So that your child reaches his/her full potential, we recommend he/she attends a minimum of five sessions in order for him/her to establish a routine and benefit from the broad range of experiences.

Our Nursery class prepares children for the full school day that they will begin in Reception.  Then children continue with their learning journey and staff work together to ensure a smooth transition into Reception.
