Nursery's Potatoes»
16/04/2010

This year the nursery are taking part in the " Grow your own potatoes " competition. This competition is organised by the Potato Council and funded by the Potato Farming Industry and is a perfect way to bring children and agriculture together.

The children have 'chitted' their potatoes and planted them before the Easter holidays.
When the children came back to school they saw little green leaves popping up out of the soil. They had planted 2 different types of potato in 2 separate grow bags and they had all grown. The children were really excited and thought some kind of magic had happened!

The schools taking part in this competition must then harvest their potatoes in June, weigh them, photograph them and send in the weight of potatoes harvested to the sponsors of the contest. The school with the biggest crop will receive a fantastic allotment makeover and there are also other runner up prizes too.
