Lets celebrate!  Some of the award winners!

On Thursday 1st July, an audience of proud parents, friends of the school and of course the stars, the children gathered in The Square Chapel, Halifax to celebrate the achievements and successes of all the children at Hipperholme Grammar Junior School.
Mrs. Reynolds, Headteacher, introduced the evening by giving the audience a review of the year.  “What an amazing year we have had.  Our children have had a wonderful year filled with hard work, warmth, friendship and lots of fun along the way.”  She then went on to read the audience the school’s school report, giving  parents the good news that all children were performing above target in all subjects.

The first half of the evening was dedicated to watching the talented children as they performed an array of musical delights.  Jack Moorhouse wowed the audience with his stunning voice as he took the part of Joseph in Form 6’s medley of Joseph and The Technicolour Dreamcoat songs.  The audience then enjoyed Reception, Forms 1 and 2’s performance of Rumble in The Jungle where Reception children wore painted jungle masks and the other children sported explorer hats!  Forms 3 and 4 sang about their enjoyable Residential visit to Hebden Hey to the tune of The Teddy Bears Picnic whilst Form 5 showed us their musical talents using a variety of instruments to make animal noises in their Mowgli in the Jungle performance.

There were a range of awards given out to recognise achievement in Sport, Music, Science, English, Maths, French, Art and other special awards which included the Stanley Hastings Trophy for Sportsmanship given to Megan Armitage.  The Phillip Watkins Award for contribution to school was awarded to Isabelle Williams and The Elaine Aggis Prize awarded to children with a sunny and cheerful disposition went to siblings, Saffron and Jonah Carroll.  Faye Burnhill took home the Alice Horsey Music Award for her contribution to music in school, whilst Emily Briggs was the deserved winner of the Stephen Hicks Science award.

Current Head Boy, Finley MacKenzie and Head Girl, Mollie Rose spoke to everyone about their term in office.  Finley said “Being Head Boy has made me grow as a person, it has helped me achieve my goals and has given me so much confidence.  I would like to thank all the teachers who have supported me during my time at the school.”  Mollie talked about how surprised and delighted she was when she realised she was being given such an opportunity, “I have enjoyed my time as Head Girl and have had so many memorable moments during my time in post.  I will take these memories with me as I move on to Hipperholme Grammar School for my secondary education.”

The evening conluded with the new Head Boy and new Head Girl being announced: James Lathom-Sharp and Madeline Snowball.  They are extremely excited about taking up such prestigious roles.
