A Welcome Dance
Children at the Junior School all enjoyed an afternoon of Indian culture on Friday 5th March. They were treated to a visit from Annapurna Indian Dance company who brought alive well loved stories from the ancient epics and mythology of India. The two talented dancers, Shanti and Rhidi used vibrant traditional dances, music and beautiful costumes to share their Indian culture with the children.
The Story of Ganesh
The children watched a number of dances and laughed as their teachers and a few of their friends performed traditional stories such as Ganesh the Hindu Elephant God.
Then they were split into groups where they enjoyed workshops which allowed them to appreciate and enjoy the graceful and rhythmic movements from traditional ancient dances as well as a well known Indian song made famous by Slum Dog Millionaire using Indian rhythm sticks. Many were given the opportunity to try on the vibrant clothing as they acted out traditional stories.
