Year 4 Girls start the race
On the 6th March, excited primary school children from a variety of local schools gathered at Hipperholme Grammar Junior School for the Inter Schools Annual Cross Country Event. The school welcomed a variety of primary schools from across the region to join in the fun: Huddersfield Grammar School, St Chad’s Primary School, Northowram Fulneck Primary School, Pudsey and Reed School, Selby.
Year 4 Boys start the race
The excited crowd was made up of proud parents and teachers of pupils from Reception age up to Year 6. The races took place on the school’s playing field and on “The Stray” with different lengths of courses for different age groups. The races were organised by age group and girls and boys ran separately. The first children to compete were Reception girls who did an impressive sprint to the finish. They were followed by their male counterparts who also finished in excellent time. Forms 1 and 2 were next to compete before the prize giving ceremony for Key Stage 1 took place.
Joe Stedman races to the finish line
The Stray was used for Years 3-6 races. This was a very challenging course but all the children completed the race and although tired, finished with a smile. All schools competed well with Hipperholme Grammar Junior School children winning many team prizes and medals. Joe Stedman came first in the Year 5 boys’ race, Emily Briggs took first place in the Year 6 girls’ race. Harry Palmer also brought home a medal for the school, coming second place in what was a very tight finish in the Year 6 boys’ race. All the children mixed well with each other and there was a real sense of camaraderie throughout the day. Well done to everyone who took part.
