Senior Newsletter 30th Nov 2018
Last week saw one of our most important events in the school calendar, our annual Speech Night when all the successes, trips and events of the past year are celebrated in tremendous style at Bradford Cathedral. Firstly, I thank you all for your attendance; I know for some the traffic caused considerable anxiety and I really appreciate your perseverance. Though only once a year, it is so important that we can meet as a whole community under one roof and congratulate not only those who have had outstanding academic success but those who have made invaluable contributions to school life. It also gives an opportunity for students to engage in public speaking and our Year 11 leadership team delivered their presentations with great confidence and aplomb. The choir gave some beautiful renditions and we heard about accomplishments in all the areas of the curriculum as well as all the exciting ventures outside the classroom. Our guest speaker Elizabeth Wright, Paralympic medallist, and author, gave an inspirational speech which I believe will encourage us all to follow our dreams, embrace determination and dedication and ultimately believe in ourselves.
It was wonderful to welcome back our Year 11 and 13 students from last year to receive their awards and hear about how they are adapting to and enjoying the next phase in their education. One of the Year 11 students who couldn’t be with us on the evening was Charles Kershaw. Charles won a scholarship for his swimming ability and is now studying at Plymouth College. I would, therefore, like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on his fantastic accomplishment. I know he will be returning to school at Christmas when he will collect his GCSE certificates and also his award for contribution to swimming and excellence in Art.
This week the internal exams have meant an air of quiet and studious intent has pervaded the building. I do hope that all students have prepared well and that the hard work and effort that has gone into their studies over the term is justly rewarded.
Friday 7th December sees our Christmas Fayre. This will take place immediately after school and finish at 6 pm. All students are contributing to form stalls and activities, there will be musical items from the choir as well as communal carol singing and, of course, refreshments. I do hope you will all find the time to attend and support the children in their ventures.
As the festive season draws ever closer, may I remind you that our Carol Service takes place on Tuesday 18th December at 7 pm at Coley Church, to which you are all very warmly invited.
I hope your preparations for the festive season are going well and wish you a very pleasant weekend.
