Our pupils experienced a wonderfully entertaining and inspirational school assembly today to promote the European Day of Languages. Madame Crossan and Frau Tyne from the MFL department had a treat lined up for us all. We heard all about how important languages are to our lives and learnt how they can lead to future careers such as working for MI5! We also got to view some fabulous video footage to emphasise the point. First up was Lewis who told us about his role as a professional sports analyst and how his love for languages had taken him to various parts of Europe, including Girona in Spain. He had even spoken Catalan at a Liverpool v Barcelona match when he was working for LFC at Anfield!
We then enjoyed the whole of Yr 7 performing a fabulous rendition of a song that took us all around the world using different languages in the lyrics.
Our pupils were amazed to see all of the teaching staff and our Headteacher Mr James each speaking a different line of a European language that they had studiously learnt. That’s 24 languages in all including Russian, Danish, Greek, Finnish and Latvian!
Best of all was watching Frau Tyne sing in Lithuanian, a beautiful song that was accompanied on percussive instruments by Mrs Crossan, Mrs Zarneh, Mrs Styles, Mrs Settle, Mrs Scholefield, Mrs Ford and Mr Farr.
It was a fantastic assembly and made all of us want to travel to another country so that we could practice speaking another language.
