FRIDAY OCTOBER 2ND, Nursery and Juniors 4-6 pm, Senior School 6-8 pm

Welcome from the Head of Foundation

Hipperholme Grammar School is an independent school for pupils aged 3- 16 situated between Halifax, Bradford and Huddersfield. We offer a first-class rounded grammar school education through a broad academic curriculum and a wide variety of exciting activities beyond the classroom. Class sizes are small so teachers are able to attend to individual needs. We are a nurturing and cohesive community, where promoting well-being and building self-esteem are paramount. We have been well placed to respond to Covid 19, with established digital platforms for online learning and on-going one to one pastoral care.  I look forward to welcoming you to Hipperholme Grammar School.

Nicholas James, Head of Foundation

Junior School

The Junior school is a vibrant, thriving independent school for children aged 3 to 11 years.  Small class sizes and a warm, secure environment enable all children to reach their potential.  We pride ourselves on being a very happy school with strong social and moral values.  The learning atmosphere is shaped by delivering high-quality teaching in classrooms that provide challenge, enquiry and investigation.  Our extensive extracurricular programme allows students to develop their interests and leadership skills as well as the opportunity for collaboration with the whole school community.  At HGJS, we believe a child’s school years should be a very special time where friendships are made and personalities develop.  It is here, great journeys start for our students.

Pastoral:

We are proud of the pastoral care we offer within the school. We support all the pupils to be happy, healthy and able to perform to their full potential. It was recognised at the last ISI Inspection May 2019 that we offer ‘excellent’ pastoral provision and that we have created an ‘atmosphere of tolerance and trust’ and pupils feel ‘respected and valued’. All pupils are individuals, they are all unique, so we work closely with parents to ensure any issues are resolved swiftly and nipped in the bud. We understand that a pupil’s wellbeing is paramount to their success and everyone within the school works together to enable pupils to flourish.

Jill Sugden, Assistant Head (Pastoral)

Academic:

Hipperholme Grammar has a long-standing history of ensuring that individuals achieve their full academic potential. Pupils come to Hipperholme to not only experience the full extra-curricular activities on offer but more importantly, to learn. This was highlighted in the 2019 ISI report which states ‘Pupils’ attitudes to learning are decidedly positive’ and ‘They complete their work carefully and can pursue studies independently’. This positive attitude to learning is due to the dedicated teaching staff tailoring their lessons to take into account pupils’ individual needs, and because, as stated in the ISI report ‘their behaviour is excellent’ teachers can deliver lessons without any interruptions.
